BUILD YOUR OWN RELIGION

In this performance people are invited to build an interreligious structure out of cardboard and then put on clothing in preparation for an interreligious disco dance (birdie song meets different prayer forms). People are then invited to do a GOD? shout, where they all shout out together what the word means to them, whether good or bad. Images of the performance are from Leicester and Peckham but I don't have any of the dancing yet. The performance is also to be at Peckham Square in London, Tullie House in Carlisle and in Poland.

Do the Interreligious Disco Dance

Walking down the street one day
I met a Muslim friend
He asked me if I wanted fun
that was a real Godsend.

Later in the afternoon
I met a Hindu man.
He told me of a new dance craze
– of which he was a fan

When I was sipping decaf,
I heard a Buddhist monk
Say find true peace in nature
and “be one with the funk”.

On seeing my confusion,
a friendly Navahoe
Said I’ll show you this brand new dance
“and this is how it go!”

Eden was a paradise
with music in creation
Adam was the first to groove
and move in celebration.

But what of God’s commandments,
that number 1 to 10?
Since Moses found the Promised Land
its dancing time again.
