NEWS: Hubs in Pubs
5 Hubs are emerging across Cumbria,
roughly: north, east, south/central, south and west. The groups so far are made up of a diversity of practitioners including 2
and 3D, web, film and music interests, and look set to form a really dynamic base for the projects.
If you want to get
involved in the Hubs project then get in touch – it doesn’t matter what background, knowledge or experience you might have, just
an interest in working with a group of artists to create some exciting work, discuss it with your peers and pick up some serious
skills in the process.
Hubs meetings: initial get together to discuss where each group would like to go are as follows:
West Hub: Friday 24th, Keswick, 2.30pm, venue TCB – please contact the Network.
South/central Hub: Thursday 9th March, Kendal
– Dickie Doodles, 7pm
North, east and south dates TBC – contact the Network for
more details.

ARTIST SOUGHT FOR ANTI-ROAD CAMPAIGN Transport Solutions for Lancaster and Morecambe are appealing for an artist who can create a visual impression of the key features of the Heysham M6 Link Road. The plans include a dual carriageway with several road bridges, a flyover 43' high and numerous steep embankments, and along one stretch there will be 8 lanes of traffic. All of them ploughing through greenfield sites in North Lancaster and Torrisholme, to the dismay of local residents and veteran road protestors who, backed by the evidence of the County Council's own research, point out the road will not solve the vast majority of Lancaster's traffic problems. The County Council of course, is in favour of the road... See the maps and diagrams at http://www.heyshamm6link.info |

WWW | Wray Scarecrow Festival. All through the winter the quaintly snowed-in rural folk of Wray Village have been eccentrically passing the time engaged in their indigenous craft - making fabulous scarecrows! The streets, lanes and alleyways of this picturesque village will be populated by tableaux and fantasy creations on all kinds of themes - politics, TV and more. I think we can expect some royal scarecrows for sure. There will be delicious and cheap home-made refreshments in Wray Institute all week. There will be a display of costumes and flowers 'Moments in Time' with music at Holy Trinity Church. David and Goliath Rap Mon-Fri Wray school 11am + 2pm. The Festival kicks off today with the St George's Day celebrations, and finishes with the big fair on May Monday. Don't miss this. You just have to go. If our council had any sense they'd organise special buses. See www.wrayvillage.co.uk/scarecrows.htm for a stack of info or tel: 01524 32878. |
